Whether you work in a cubicle, at home, or in a spacious corner office, you can employ these Feng Shui tips to bring more prosperity into your life, more creativity and passion into your work, and more calmness into your space.
- The Entrance: The entrance to your office is a key component of feng shui because it is what allows energy to flow freely into and out of your space. If you have a door to your office, it should open completely without anything getting in the way. The idea is that you will have your physical door wide open to welcome new clients, new work, and more money.
- Plants or Flowers: Even if you don’t have a window in your office, it’s critical to incorporate nature into your environment. Research shows that plants and flowers in our offices increase positivity, happiness, and energy, and plants are air purifiers. Jade plants are always a good choice since they represent money energy.
- Declutter Your Desk: Clutter is stagnant energy and could make you feel stuck. Clean up your desk at the beginning and end of each day, with the intention of clearing away any obstacles that are preventing you from reaching your goals.
- Water Feature: Water adds to the circulation of the chi in your office, and it symbolically represents money flowing. Ideally, a small fountain is perfect for your office, but if a fountain isn’t feasible, try a fishbowl. Or hang a painting or photograph of a waterfall.
- Desk Placement: If you can, move your desk so that it faces the entrance of your office. When you face the entrance, it puts you in a commanding position. If this is not possible, then hang a mirror above your desk so that you can see who enters at all times.
- Symbolic Artwork: Artwork evokes a range of feelings in us and can symbolize your goals and contribute to the tone and feel of any space. For example, Mountains hanging behind your desk symbolize support for your career. A photo of a balloon rising, or birds flying, or a plane taking off will help your career soar. Whatever you hang has to mean something personally to you. I have the Hindu goddess Lakshmi hanging in my office because she is the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and to me, she represents the successful business executive.
- Check Your Personal Energy: The most important aspect of any office is the energy you bring into your office every day. Take a few minutes at the beginning, middle, and end of each day to set your intention for that time. Clear your mind to promote better focus.
On a basic level, modern feng shui involves thinking about how we interact with our environment while creating spaces that will maximize positive energy and productivity. There are clear parallels with good design elements and desk ergonomics, even though feng shui has deeper spiritual roots. If we believe that our surroundings have a direct influence on our mood, our outlook, and our ability to get things done, then it’s worth making space and taking the time to incorporate these basic feng shui suggestions.

Working with Feng Shui colors is a great way to emphasize various Feng Shui rhythms in your garden. In Feng Shui, color is used according to the five elements theory, and you can bring healing harmony, and joy to your garden by choosing colors that emphasize specific energies, such as the fire energy in the color red, the color of a tomato; or the healing earth element in the color of yellow squash.

Whether you are setting up a new workspace or looking to refresh your existing space, here are a few feng shui do and don’ts for optimizing your home office.
2. Use your front door. The front door is critical in feng shui because it is the main portal through which the energy enters your home. Make sure the area is free of clutter, well lit and most of all make sure you use it every day.
3. Balance the five elements. The five elements, earth, wood, fire, water, and metal can be present in your home either physically, symbolically in the shape, or the color. Look closely at the literal and symbolic ways the five elements show up in your home. An imbalance of the elements can mean an imbalance in your emotions. Strike a balance between all five in each room.
5. Surround yourself with gratitude. Count your blessings each day. Remembering the hard times you have survived will help you realize how far you have come. Establish a daily practice of reminding yourself of the gifts, grace, benefits, and good things you enjoy. Your environment influences your experience so make it a grateful one.
