Scotland Castle Brings in Feng Shui Design Elements

I took this photo on a recent trip to Scotland. This is the furthest left-hand corner, on the first floor, of a hotel that is a converted castle. This room represents the business wealth and prosperity. What a great job! Doesn’t this room look rich? I can tell you first hand it certainly felt rich.

I love how balanced the room is: the two large plants balancing the earth energy; all the wood representing the wood element; water is flowing with the glass and TV and black couch; the gray long curtains bring in the metal element; look at all the red igniting the fire element.

5 Easy Things You Can Do To Bring Feng Shui Design to the Outside of Your Home The outside of your home needs to be evaluated using Feng Shui in order to make sure it is in alignment with your goals and to strengthen the chi and balance the energy for better results.

Here are a few easy things you can do:

Make sure the area is clean and picked up. Even if you live in an apartment, take a few moments to clear up anything right outside your front door. This area sets the chi for your home.
Take some time for yard work. Hedges, trees, shrubs all need to be trimmed and mowed. Shape up the bushes and hedges and see what a difference it makes to the appearance of your home.
Paint the house your favorite colors. It’s just paint. You can always change it. Put a fresh coat of paint on your front door. My front door is the original big wooden door to my 111-year-old house. I paint it pink in the summer and brick red in the winter. If you have a mailbox, paint it red to ignite your passion and wealth (in ancient China money always arrived in red envelopes).
Plant flowers. I make sure I have green jade plants in the front of my house, bringing in the energy of abundance. White flowers can help with fertility, travel opportunities or attracting helpful people. Red and pink plants can help with your love life and orange plants will aid you in a good reputation.
After you have made the changes, go to the street and look at your home. How does it make you feel? Do you feel happy? If not add one thing or make any changes to achieve the feelings you want to evoke.

How to Use the Water Element of Feng Shui to Bring More Abundance to Your Space

Can you tell what major element this room is missing? Right, water. Just as water is essential for life on earth, so is the element essential in your home or office decorating. Water is an ancient symbol of abundance, and it brings flow, freshness and deep emotion to any space.

The Water feng shui element, in all its gentleness and grace, is a very powerful element; in fact, water is one of the most powerful forces of nature. It is a different kind of power, the one that often takes you by surprise and encompasses all extremes — it can be a very powerful healer, as well as the ultimate destroyer. Water is the only element out of the five-feng shui elements (water, fire, wood, earth, and metal) that can exist in several states from liquid water to gaseous vapors to solid ice. This metamorphosis emphasizes the potent and often untapped mystery of the water element energy.

The water element is also the only element that is free in its presence and expression. It can fall from the skies as in rain, it can joyfully run, rest or play on the surface of the earth in rivers, lakes, and oceans, as well as penetrate the deepest chambers of the inner earth as in underground water. No wonder “feng shui” means “wind and water”! The wind is the expression of air, which we obviously cannot live without, and water is the ultimate queen of all elements — from plants to animals to humans.

A strong presence of the water element can help to elevate any room. Try decorating with the water element by using the colors blue and black. Or use shapes like waves and curves to bring in water. Also, mirrors, fountains, images of water and blue rugs will all add the essential water element to any space.

Just a couple of words of caution, water represents the flow of luck and wealth so if you put a water feature outside your front door, make sure it flows towards your home and not away from it. Never place images of water in your bedroom as water cools fire which will douse passion, and if placed over the bed, you will be sleeping “under water”.

How to Implement Creative Feng Shui in the Bedroom: Good and Bad

I really love it when I see implemented creative concepts, and I really appreciate the effort put into this bedroom but there are a couple of things that stand out that are good Feng Shui and a few that are bad Feng Shui.

Good Feng Shui

Two pillows on the bed.
Your bedroom represents love and relationships no matter where it is located in your home, so having things grouped in pairs, like these two pillows is a wonderful way to bring in the number two or the energy of a couple.
The lamp in the corner.
There are two nightstands, one you can see in this photo and one you can’t, but they match. The lamp in the corner can be used to activate the chi in the room by turning it on, which successfully brings in the fire element or passion.
The color blue.
Blue is a nice tranquil color for a bedroom and it also represents deep emotion. It’s a calming color, which is something we all strive for when we are trying to relax and sleep.
No clutter.
This room looks very orderly, even the bedspread looks like it has “hospital corners.”
All five elements are represented.
The color blue represents the water element: all the lighting is fire, the material of wood for the bed is the wood element; earth is represented in the shape of the square painting, and the color of the carpet represents the earth element.

Bad Feng Shui

Although there are a pair of paintings, they are paintings of the ocean. So the inhabitants of this room will always be sleeping “underwater”. Most likely getting a good nights sleep will be challenging. The feeling of “drowning” in the relationship is also a possibility.
The headboard is not solid.
Headboards represent our stability of our relationships. This headboard and the spaces symbolically represent holes in the relationships of those who sleep here.
Lights under the bed.
I love the idea of having all the lights, symbolically “firing up” the passion in this bed, but the lights would also need to be turned off while sleeping. No one can sleep well over fire.

How to Honor the Dragon Using Feng Shui

Your front door represents your career and life journey and is the most crucial entry point for the energy or chi to enter your home. It is considered the “mouth of the dragon” as we say in Feng Shui and we honor the dragon by going through the front door daily.

There is a lot right about this foyer but there is room for improvement. The plants are perfect, they are healthy and growing, representing the career and life journey of the inhabitants of the house. The rug slows the chi down from rushing out of the house and slows it down as people walk in. All five elements are clearly present: Wooden floor- wood; White walls – metal; the colors in the rug both read and blue represent fire and water; and the plants – earth. So there is a great deal of balance.

However, the books underneath the bench, the metal artwork under the bench and the pair of shoes need to be placed somewhere else, and off the floor. These items clutter up the chi that is trying to activate the power of this area. A super simple fix to a beautiful space!
