Whether you work in a cubicle, at home, or in a spacious corner office, you can employ these Feng Shui tips to bring more prosperity into your life, more creativity and passion into your work, and more calmness into your space.
- The Entrance: The entrance to your office is a key component of feng shui because it is what allows energy to flow freely into and out of your space. If you have a door to your office, it should open completely without anything getting in the way. The idea is that you will have your physical door wide open to welcome new clients, new work, and more money.
- Plants or Flowers: Even if you don’t have a window in your office, it’s critical to incorporate nature into your environment. Research shows that plants and flowers in our offices increase positivity; happiness, energy and plants are air-purifiers. Jade plants are always a good choice since they represent money energy.
- Declutter Your Desk: Clutter is stagnant energy and could make you feel stuck. Clean up your desk at the beginning and end of each day, with the intention of clearing away any obstacles that are preventing you from reaching your goals.
- Water Feature: Water adds to the circulation of the chi in your office and it symbolically represents money flowing. Ideally, a small fountain is perfect for your office, but if a fountain isn’t feasible, try a fish bowl. Or hang a painting or photograph of a waterfall.
- Desk Placement: If you can, move your desk so that it faces the entrance of your office. When you face the entrance it puts you in a commanding position. If this is not possible then hang a mirror above your desk so that you can see who enters at all times.
- Incorporate Color: Bringing color into your workspace can be the push you need to boost motivation, innovation, and creativity. Different colors have different energies and bring out different outcomes. For example: Green improves health and balance; Blue supports career success and growth; Yellow represents happiness and good times; White brings creative energy, and Red infuses your office with passion.
Symbolic Artwork: Artwork evokes a range of feelings in us and can symbolize your goals and contribute to the tone and feel of any space. For example: Mountains hanging behind your desk symbolize support to your career. A photo of a balloon rising, or birds flying, or a plane taking off will help your career soar. Whatever you hang has to mean something personally to you. I have the Hindu goddess Lakshmi hanging in my office because she is the goddess of wealth and prosperity and to me, she represents the successful business executive.- Check Your Personal Energy: The most important aspect of any office is the energy you bring into your office every day. Take a few minutes at the beginning, middle, and end of each day to set your intention for that time period. Clear your mind to promote better focus
On a basic level, modern feng shui involves thinking about how we interact with our environment while creating spaces that will maximize positive energy and productivity. There are clear parallels with good design elements, and even desk ergonomics, even though feng shui has deeper spiritual roots. If we believe that our surroundings have a direct influence on our mood, our outlook, and our ability to get things done, then it’s worth making space, and taking the time to incorporate these basics feng shui suggestions.
