Welcome to Creating a Meaningful Life. I’m Michelle Cromer, and I’m Perla Maldonado
Can you believe it? Summer is already winding down, and that means one thing: back to school.
Now, if you’re a college student—or you have one in your life—you know how important that dorm room becomes. It’s not just a place to crash. It’s your sanctuary. Your study space. Your reset zone. And it’s often cramped, chaotic, and packed with stress.
But what if your space could actually support your energy, your focus, and your well-being?
Today, we are going to share a few Feng Shui tips to help transform a small dorm room into a powerful, peaceful place of creativity, calm, and clarity.
Tip 1: Bed Placement
Let’s start with the bed.
If possible, place the bed against a solid wall—and if you can, use a headboard. In Feng Shui, this creates a sense of support and stability. It anchors your nervous system and gives you an energetic sense of protection. Especially during stressful semesters, your bed should feel like a strong, safe place to land.
Tip 2: Clear the Doorway
Next—your door.
This is where energy—and opportunity—enters.
Make sure the door can open all the way and isn’t blocked by shoes, bags, or clutter. If your entry is obstructed, it can symbolically block new possibilities from coming in.
Tip 3: Mind the EMFs
Keep electronics at least an arm’s length from your head when sleeping. Phones, laptops, and tablets all emit electromagnetic frequencies—and those can mess with your sleep and your energy. A simple shift here can mean deeper rest and a clearer mind.
Tip 4: Add Living Energy
Plants! Yes, even one or two small real plants can bring in vitality, oxygen, and life force. They also help you stay grounded and connected—something we all need when we’re surrounded by fluorescent lighting and constant deadlines.
Tip 5: Choose Uplifting Wall Art
What you hang on your walls matters.
Choose images, words, or symbols that reflect your goals and dreams. Skip anything dark, chaotic, or emotionally heavy. Your space should be a vision board for your future—not a reminder of fear or uncertainty.
Tips 6 & 7: Clutter and Trash
Clear what you don’t need.
Clutter is one of the biggest sources of stuck energy. When you declutter—even just your desk or closet—you create space for fresh ideas, motivation, and peace.
And don’t forget the trash can. Empty it daily. Energetically, taking out the trash makes room for new beginnings.
Tip 8: Bathroom Door
If your dorm has a bathroom, keep the door closed when you sleep. In Feng Shui, bathrooms are areas of elimination—and leaving the door open can drain your energy. It’s a simple fix that really makes a difference.
Tip 9: Invite in Light
One of my favorite tips:
Hang a small crystal in front of a window. It will catch sunlight and scatter rainbow light across your space—uplifting your mood and inspiring your creativity.
Look, we get it—roommates, small spaces, and bolted-down furniture can throw a wrench in your ideal Feng Shui setup. But don’t get hung up on what you can’t change. Start small. Shift what you can.
Because even a few small adjustments can lead to big shifts in your mood, your clarity, and your focus.
So if you’re heading back to campus—or know someone who is—try one of these tips. Create a dorm room that feels not just functional, but sacred.
Here’s to a meaningful, focused, and empowering school year.
Until next time,
Be grounded. Be intentional.
And keep creating a meaningful life.
