The fundamental principle of Feng Shui is balancing the chi in your home to increase love, abundance, health, and joy. We do this by using the five-element principle of water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. This system is based on the Daoist premise that we are all One, and everything is made up of these five energies. The universe, planets, rivers, mountains, animals, plants and you all consist of these elements to sustain life and to sustain balance.
I know from the last 15 years that I have taught and practiced Feng Shui if there is an energy imbalance in your home, the effects of that imbalance will surface somewhere in your life. Utilizing the five-element principles will help to maintain balance.
Living spaces are in essence living beings. The front door is the mouth itself the energy that is being inhaled through the front door and exhaled through the back. Our energy and that of our homes are so interrelated that each aspect of the home is a symbolic representation of us.
Our house is a metaphor for our life: It can only hold so much stuff. We only have so much wall space for our art, so much floor space for our furniture and so much closet space for our things. So we have to prioritize, revise, and choose what we want in our homes, too much stuff can stagnate any energy and not allow it to move.
There are several ways to incorporate Feng Shui and the five elements in any space like this room has successfully done. What I love about this room is the way it feels, the healthy balance it achieves and it looks beautiful. The element of water is used in the color blue as well as the image in the painting to achieve fluidity, wisdom, and power. The fire element is present in the two lamps as well as the chandelier and improves passion. The wood element in the furniture brings flexibility and growth to the lives of the people in the home. The color of the couch and the white walls add the metal element to ensure good communication and joy. The healthy tall plant in the corner adds the earth element ensuring good health and stability.
I encourage you to look around your home and see how each of the five elements is expressing itself.
